Saving Money!

Post by Sarah Y on Sat Jan 26, 2008 2:08 pm

Thought I'd add this post for those with hints and tips for saving money and where to look for bargains. Running a household, looking after children and still having money for treats is hard work.

Great idea!! Along with Tobeys trust fund Im looking to open a normal savings account - one for him and one for general things such as holidays etc.
How much does everyone save per month and for what?? (if im not being cheeky asking! lol)

I try and save each month but it does'nt happen at the moment with only one wage coming into the household. The kids have their own savings though, money from birthdays, christmas etc..

Yes I have!! I always have £5 in coins in my purse 'just incase'. Everything else goes in a piggybank and I change it up once a month to go away. This month we had £40 mostly in £2 coins!!

Be realistic

Post by Hayley Campbelton on Tue Feb 19, 2008 6:52 am

Aim for some ideal target. i.e. say if you were given money on a regular basis like £24.12 every week put the £4.12 away. That's what I've been doing as I owe my mum some money so we agreed on £10 per week and I also save over the week all the change which is under 50p and count it up at the end of the week and add that to the £10 which brings the debt down slowly plus you tend not to miss the odd bit of change.
Good Luck xxx lol!

I was paying £10 a month into Shaylah & Breckin's ctf accounts and when I stopped working I cancelled them, can't see myself going back to work in the near future though to restart them. We put £10 a week into saving while I was pg to save for baby stuff which we'll continue doing for treats etc but with 4 kids and only 1 wage some weeks we only scrape by.

We have 2 huge jars. One is for 2ps, 1ps and any coins Nathan is given and the other jar is our jar for all our pound coins and silver coins which we use in case we run out of money and need to get nappies, milk or electric, we do not touch Nathan's jar. I have no idea how much is in it at the moment or in ours but it's our way of saving for him. That and I transfer a pound or 2 each week into his savings account.
