Measuring the belly

Post by Wicks on Wed Feb 20, 2008 5:18 am

Anyone know when the midwifes start to measure your belly? I have an appointment with my midwife on Tuesday when I will be 21 weeks, will they start to measure then?

I'm fairly sure mine did it at my booking in, but I was 14 weeks by the time I saw my actual midwife. I guess they'll start next time they see you, they can only really feel the uterus above the pelvic bone after about 12 weeks ( I think)

Yeh I know. I went to my doctor before that tho.

Its a lot better from when I had my first son. I only saw a midwife when I was in labour

You're tiny, so I can't imagine yours would be anything else but small!
I won't get measured til my next appointment now

I had an interesting conversation today with midwife about this.
In our area, they palpate fundal height rather than measuring, although I asked her to measure me, because I felt like I was missing out!!
With a tape measure, I'm 23.8mm, so just under 24 weeks, but by fundal height, I'm "at least" 27 weeks.
Just shows how even on one person, it can be different xxx

I measure 28 1/2 weeks when I had Tobey at 36 weeks! I was warned that he wouldnt weigh any more than 4lb and there he was at 5lb 11oz! I wonder if its all guess work when it comes down to it after my experience! lol
