Old wives tales Empty Old wives tales

Post by Hayley Campbelton Wed Feb 13, 2008 3:19 am

Anybody know of any old wives tales or tricks that may bring on labour. Heavily pregnant with 3rd baby, 15month old turning into the child from hell and a 7 year old who tries to help but ends up causing more problems. I just want the baby out so I can get on with the old me of pottering around the house tidying up then going for walks with the pushchair not asking hubby to help me, as he just gives me the look of 'but i just sat down'.
I know that sex can work on odd occasions, raspberry leaf tea did nothing last time and tasted foul. Someone mentioned pineapple. lol!

I was told not to eat pineapple when I went into premature labour at 33 weeks hun! Think you have to eat quite a bit tho and at the time I was practically addicted to anything with pineapple!
In your case lots of hot baths, thats what got Jamie moving!!

I guess i will have to stick to the sex and hot baths for now, they both involve be being naked which got me into this situation in the first place.
I plan on having some spicy food tonight as its valentines day, that might work. It will make a change from pancakes with sugar and lemon juice which I cannot stop eating at the moment ever since pancake day I've had them practically everyday.

gosh can't remember the technical terms now, but it's meant to be, oh is it oxytocin? probably wrong spelling!! basically the hormones that are realised from stimulation such as orgasms or nipple tweaking, also you have if baby's head is pushing down it is meant to start things off, although not sure on technical terms for this, this is why gyms balls or bumpy drives works. Hot food I always assumed worked in the same way as castor oil did - ie flush you our, which is awful and so not recommended - not that I've tried it. But apparently it's something that is in curry, not the heat, I had a korma and sex the day my waters broke. I honestly think all these things work if you are ready, like a sweep, it works if your body is ready.

I recommend RLT for the fact that I really felt it helped speed my labour on.

The day I went into labour I had drunk raspberry leaf tea, eaten pineapple, been for a ling walk and taken castor oil! Not sure which 1 to suggest but they all worked for me.
